Job Description

This is a non-merit position with the Department of Human Services. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

The Department of Human Services is looking to fill a Temporary Pharmacist position to assist the state. Candidate will be responsible for checking medication in Opus cassettes and other prescription items dispensed with cycle fill to ensure accurate and timely delivery to individual residents; including documentation on pharmacy records to validate pharmacist check has been completed and to provide a cross check of the MAR to ensure all medications ordered by the physician are being dispensed as part of the cycle fill.

Candidate will function as back-up staff pharmacist in support of work flow dispensing processes within the scope of pharmacy practice laws including, but not limited to: perform prospective/retrospective drug utilization review and network with the facility physicians to recommend changes and/or clarify drug orders, provide drug information/education to physicians and other IDT members, direct and oversee the work of the pharmacy technicians filling new, refill and change order prescriptions, ensure accuracy by performing final pharmacist check and completion of required documentation prior to the dispensing or new refill and change order prescriptions. Responsible for all front end pharmacy practice operations when filling this role.

Additionally, will carry a regular patient caseload, as assigned, to assist with preparing drug regimen reviews and individual program plans.

Special projects and other clinical duties/initiatives as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Licensure as a Pharmacist by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners.
